My counselor recently asked me what my coping skills were for when I feel stressed or tired or sick. She was astounded by how many coping skills I listed. Maybe you guys would like to try some of them, too, whether you're on the autistic spectrum or off of it. Here's the list:
- Singing or humming
- Singing while showering
- Stretching while showering
- Stretching the places that hurt until they stop hurting
- Facebooking
- Reading
- Reading aloud
- Crocheting
- Cross-stitching
- Making paper crafts
- Watching my daughter play
- Kissing my husband
- Taking a walk
- Drinking more water
- Having a snack or a meal
- Writing, writing, writing
- Proofreading
- Giving my daughter a sticker
- Making a to-do list and checking items off
- Praying to God, in Jesus' Name
- Calling a friend
- Going to the beach
- Going to the library
- Going window shopping
- Going shopping for real
- Playing table games with family
- Folding laundry while watching TV
- Playing favorite playlists or CDs
- Watching an "oldie but goodie" DVD
- Listening to sermons
